SOLD to Steve and Lisa D.  “TRIBUTE TO RICK GRIFFIN” Painting by Drew Brophy on a 7'10″ Single fin Pipeline "gun shaped" Surfboard shaped by Ron House.

This is an extremely special art piece. It incorporates ancient symbolism that is meaningful to both the artist and his inspiration, Rick Griffin.

Every symbol and stroke of paint has deep meaning in this painting and it is meant to be sipped slowly, like a fine wine.

This painting was featured in two different museum exhibitions; the MAKING WAVES exhibition at the Myrtle Beach Art Museum in South Carolina 2018 and the SURFING THE PACIFIC RIM exhibit at the Huntington Beach Art Center Museum in 2021.

Drew Brophy is best known for his surfboard paintings; they are collected by art art collectors, celebrities and musicians worldwide.

The surfboard itself is a fine example of craftsmanship; custom shaped by Ron House in the Gerry Lopez Pipeline shape, and with a black resin pigment on the bottom and rails; this is a fine art piece meant to display on the wall and will never fade or yellow. "Tribute to Rick Griffin" is a painting that Drew did on a surfboard to honor the late, great, Rick Griffin, an artist who inspired many after him.

The character at the bottom of the painting is Drew's representation of Rick Griffin himself, as one of his characters, inspired by Hopi Indian works.

Drew believes that Griffin was enlightened, he understood and saw things differently. His ideas and art were innovative, only a handful of artists were doing radical art like Griffin at that time period.
